How to use the case converter

  1. Paste or type your text. Drop in anything — an essay title, a paragraph, a variable name. The character and word counts update live.
  2. Click a case button. UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case and aLtErNaTiNg cAsE handle prose; camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, kebab-case and SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE handle code-style names.
  3. Copy the result. Hit Copy text, or select the text yourself — the converted text stays in the box, ready to paste anywhere.
  4. Convert again if needed. Buttons work on the current text, so you can chain conversions (e.g. Title Case, then check how it looks as SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE).
  5. Come back any time. Your text is saved in this browser, so closing the tab won't lose it. Use Clear to start fresh.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert uppercase to lowercase online?

Paste your text into the converter above and click the lowercase button — every letter converts instantly. It works the other way too: one click turns lowercase into UPPERCASE. Your text never leaves your browser.

What is a title case converter?

A title case converter capitalizes a headline the way style guides expect: the first and last words are always capitalized, and small words like and, the, and of stay lowercase in the middle. This converter's Title Case button follows that rule, so you get proper book-title formatting with one click.

How do I change text to sentence case?

Paste your text and click Sentence case. The converter lowercases everything, then capitalizes the first letter of each sentence — including sentences ending in exclamation marks and question marks. Short abbreviations like e.g. and Mr. are left alone so they don't falsely start a new sentence.

What is the difference between camelCase and snake_case?

They are two ways of writing multi-word names in code. camelCase joins words with no spaces and capitalizes each new word (userName), while snake_case joins words with underscores in lowercase (user_name). PascalCase (UserName) is the capitalized variant of camelCase, and kebab-case (user-name) uses hyphens instead of underscores.

When should I use kebab-case?

Use kebab-case (lowercase words joined by hyphens, like my-blog-post) for URLs, file names, and CSS class names. Hyphens are safe in web addresses and readable at a glance, which is why most websites and style guides prefer them over spaces or underscores there.

What is SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE used for?

SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE — all caps with underscores, like MAX_RETRIES — is the convention for constants in most programming languages (JavaScript, Python, Java, C). The SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE button converts any text into that format instantly, stripping punctuation and normalizing word boundaries.

What is alternating case (aLtErNaTiNg)?

Alternating case (also called sponge case) flips every letter between upper and lower: aLtErNaTiNg cAsE. It is a meme/styling format rather than a professional one. The button alternates per letter and ignores punctuation, so your text keeps its spacing and symbols.

Does this case converter save my text?

Your text is saved only in your own browser using localStorage, so it is still there when you come back on the same device. Nothing you type is sent to a server or any third party — there is no account and nothing to sign up for.

Is this case converter free?

Yes. It is completely free with no account, no signup, and no paywall — part of The Magic Codex's collection of free student tools.
